While smoking up might be a socially acceptable practice in Washington and Colorado (both states legalized the drug in November), fans and media outlets seemed surprised over the weekend when TMZ caught Justin Bieber green handed. Bieber was photographed smoking what appears to be a joint at a hotel party in Newport Beach. Oddly enough, no one commented on the beer sitting right in front of the underage singer.
The 18-year-old pop-sensation took to twitter in a cryptic and not-so-out rightly apologetic (or grammatically correct for that matter) statement Saturday morning: “everyday growing and learning. trying to be better. u get knocked down, u get up.”

More like you get a little high, and then you come down—to some unsympathetic fans. Much of Justin’s fan base is under 18, and whether the star likes it or not, he is the role model for young, impressionable children all over the world (he knows his reach is all around the world, see his hit song, “All Around the World”). MTV News posted a story this morning highlighting fans supporting the singer, but not his actions.
Bieber wasn’t the only one keeping pot in the headlines this weekend. The Los Angeles Times posted a story Friday evening breaking news that Mexico might consider revisiting legalizing marijuana. The President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, said that Washington and Colorado’s reforms could bring Mexico “to rethink [the country’s] strategy”—looks like the cartels are going to have to find another day job.
Despite the Marijuana reformations at the state level, federal law still prohibits the use of marijuana for both recreational and medicinal purposes in the United States—I know, sorry to kill your buzz, but (technically) pot is still illegal in the U.S.
