Friday the 13th

Dangerously Funny Friday the 13th

Finally, today feels like a fall day. Guess what that means? Halloween is approaching, and today just so happens to be Friday the 13th! For many people around the world, today is a very scary day. Although, today is one of my favorite days – the creepiest. Bring on the weirdness. It’s Friday the 13th, and I love to make light of what bring us fright.

Western superstition considers Friday the 13th an unlucky day. According to the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in Asheville, North Carolina, an estimated 17 to 21 million people in the U.S. are affected by a phobia of this terrifying day called friggatriskaidekaphobia (I can’t even begin to pronounce that word). The name may be funny, but this day is really no joke to some– people seriously freak out; some people even avoid their normal routines such as their daily transportation routes or even leaving their homes at all, causing them to miss work (missing work because of a fear of leaving your house?). Workload ain’t got time for that! Even an estimated $800 or $900 million of business is lost on this day.

Let’s just all relax a little, shall we? IF you did leave your house (like the passengers on flight 666 to HEL did today) and you’re OKAY, then the superstitions must all just be a little Hocus Pocus.

Our Space Jason Voorhees MaskAs an avid horror filmgoer and if I didn’t already have regular Friday plans, I’d gladly celebrate today with a movie marathon consisting of Halloween (1978), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), The Sixth Sense (1999), The Ring (2002), Exorcist: The Beginning (2004) and maybe I’d even re-watch The Conjuring (2013). Actually, I admit, that was the one and only movie that actually scared me, and when I say I’m scared by a movie, you’d better bet that I truly mean it. I may have not been able to sleep that night, but there’s no proof. Bring on the next “scary” movie!

Are you already scared just by the mention of those movies? Lighten up! It is Funny Friday, and I did say I like to bring light to what frightens us. Have you ever imagined what it would be like to be a survivor in either The Walking Dead TV show or in any of the Jason or Texas Chainsaw Massacre films? Probably not, but I have, of course. Although, I’m not sure if I’d actually survive or be “that girl” who always trips and falls as she attempts to get away.

Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, a Russian-American YouTube star was inspired by a horrific cannibal attack in Miami last May (and probably The Walking Dead). Zdorovetskiy dressed up as a Zombie to scare people. His prank was so popular that he even got the attention of Daniel Tosh for his Miami Zombie Attack Prank! which has been viewed 19.2 million times on YouTube. To celebrate Friday the 13th, Zdorovetskiy teamed up with pranksters Roman Atwood and Dennis Roady for another YouTube video. Whichever one of those pranksters who was behind the Jason Voorhees Friday the 13th hockey mask was surely scaring the daylights out of people left and right while carrying that (albeit chain-less) chainsaw. Now that’s a prank!

Check out the dangerously comical clip below. Viewer discretion is advised for scariness and hilariousness.
