The sting of the guitar, the beat of the drums, the sound of vocals – what’s that I hear? It must be music to my ears. Last month I truly believed that “anything could happen” when I got surprise tickets to go see the talented English singer-song writer, Ellie Goulding in concert. Relive the experience with me as I lead you through a few intimate diary posts from my experience.

Dear Diary,
Today I found out that Ellie Goulding was coming to Chicago! I HAVE to get tickets to see her perform live. There is no way I can miss out on this show. I’ve been playing her music on repeat nearly every day, and I can’t wait for my chance to sing along with her (American Idol dreamers need not be afraid, a concert filled with a few hundred people means my “singing voice” won’t be heard).

Dear Diary,
I still have to buy my tickets to the show, procrastination keeps getting in my way. Right now I’m listening to “Uptown Girl” by Ellie Joel on Spotify because Ellie is going to be performing at the historic Aragon Ballroom which resembles a Spanish courtyard-style ballroom – it’s located in a diverse neighborhood that I’m pretty familiar with, Uptown. It’s a perfect location to see a concert, the venue is huge – even the President digs it; in 2011, Obama had his 50th birthday party there.

Dear Diary,
I was confused when I started to un-wrap my early gift from Santa. A folder? Santa gave me a folder for Christmas? Should I be thankful for this? (Big fake smile) Thank you, Santa! Oh wait, SANTA! I started to feel like my five-year-old self again when I opened the folder. I couldn’t believe my eyes! Santa tricked me in the best way; there was not only one, but TWO tickets to go see Ellie Goulding in Concert! I was certainly surprised, especially since still I have not purchased tickets! For the first time, procrastination seems to be my best friend because I received a great gift! Ellie, here I come!

Dear Diary,
Everything about today was superb! The Ellie Goulding concert was tonight! There’s so much I want to write about my hand can barely keep up with my thoughts. I got jitter-bugs when I saw her hair… yeah, I mean her hair – bright, beautiful, blonde hair that is – that’s how I knew she was taking the stage. As soon as I heard her astonishing vocals I felt my soul light up. The ambiance of the show was spectacular; the crowd was full of Ellie fans of all ages waving their arms up in the air while singing her songs; the power of music and its ability to bring different people together continues to amaze me. I was in the midst of one of the most diverse crowds with people who were just as happy as I was – everything about the night was exactly what I expected it to be and more!
Don’t you wish Santa surprised you with tickets, too?
Check out these short clips of the concert live in action!
