Funny Friday: Tales of Pethood

With National Pet Month already in full swing, this Funny Friday let’s look at some of the clever ways advertisers are targeting pet lovers.

National Pet Month is a celebration of all the amazing benefits pets bring to people’s lives and vice versa. For anyone who doesn’t already have a furry friend, the Las Vegas Animal Shelter recently released two gag infomercials presenting new and exciting multi-purpose products for your home “Pet Cat” and “Pet Dog.”

These hilarious infomercial parodies with quite possibly the cheesiest voiceover ever, highlight some of the best aspects of pet ownership. Even showcasing how each pet comes with free accessories, for the dog a leash as an instant gym attachment, and for the cat a paper bag that is more entertain then a TV.

But if you already have a pet you are crazy about, these next mockumentary style “Partners in Pethood” ads from PetSmart are sure to have you chuckling.

The first spot stars Anna Faris playing a ditzy but catty dog owner who is throwing a birthday party for her beloved pup.

In a second ad Jennifer Coolidge nails the part of an overbearing mother-in-law act in the campaigns best, and riskiest ad.

According to the American Pet Products Association, in 2014 Americans spent $58 Billion on their pets. So while we may be laughing at these ads, these brands are laughing all the way to the bank.
