The San Jose Group Executive V.P. to address

CHICAGO (June 14, 2000) — Jennifer L. Woods, Executive Vice President at the San Jose Group, will speak at the Utility Communicators International (UCI) conference about the growth opportunities that the utility industry faces by reaching the Hispanic market. The conference, organized by UCI, is being held on June 13 – 16 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

With $325 billion in purchasing power, the Hispanic Market still remains untapped by many utility companies, which are entering into deregulated markets throughout the U.S. The U.S. has the fifth largest Hispanic population in the world, and by the year 2020 it will have grown from a current 12% to 21% of the entire population. Furthermore, Hispanics have one of the highest rates of brand loyalty. “The key to taking advantage of this potential pot of gold is the execution of an effective marketing plan,” says Woods. During her tenure at the San Jose Group, Woods has counseled dozens of firms on how to use an integrated approach in marketing to Hispanics.

She added, “you have to make it culturally relevant and understand the lifestyle of the Hispanic customer–especially if you are facing the potential loss of customers to emerging competitors.”

With over 300 international members, 50 of which are in the U.S., UCI provides its members with opportunities to broaden their marketing communications knowledge. The conference will help members capitalize on new knowledge to fashion strategic responses to environmental changes, such as restructuring, deregulation and competition.
