Olly’s Oscars
Oscar season is upon us– you know, the time where we all become obsessed with art imitating life on screen. Well, we’ve been there, done that. This week, My Modern Met posted Olly Moss’s re-imagined Oscar’s poster. Moss transformed the Oscar’s to characters from each year’s Academy Award Best Picture winners. Finally, a creative, clever and, in several cases, hilarious art imitating art take on the Oscar’s. Have a look at some of my favorite Moss Oscars (along with some of my $.02, which you get for a bargain price of free).
Here’s what came to my mind when I saw Olly’s Oscars:
Gone with the Wind– 1939
I would have gone with Bonnie on a pony (what a dumb gift for a child), but I still like the dressed up Scarlett O’ Hara Oscar.
Casablanca – 1943
“Here’s looking at you… tiny, gold Humphrey.”
Hamlet – 1948
“Silver Linings Playbook or Les Miserables, that is the question.” But seriously, Hamlet had issues– drop the skull and don’t kill your uncle.
The Godfather – 1972
“I’m gonna make ’em a movie they can’t refuse, then I’ll make ’em a equal; however, the third one won’t even be worth remembering”
Dances with Wolves – 1990
May I quote Pauline Kael’s New Yorker Review: in this movie “Costner has feathers in his hair and feathers in his head.” Oh how this golden testament to “Plays with Camera,” I mean Dances with Wolves, must irk her (RIP Pauline).
The Silence of the Lambs – 1991
Touche, Olly. Touche. Even in Olly’s depiction, Hannibal Lecter Os-scares me.
Forrest Gump – 1994
Forrest Gump did basically everything else under the sun, it should have been written into the script that he became a star and won an Oscar. I mean, who wouldn’t love to hear Forrest Gump accept an Oscar? Maybe in the squeal. Paramount, get on that!
Titanic – 1997
“I’ll show you ‘King of the World!’ Initiate Leonardo Oscar snub.”
Slumdog Millionaire – 2004
May I say I’m really, really glad Olly didn’t make this an Oscar covered in… dollars. I mean, what else could he have covered it in?
The King’s Speech – 2010
… I’m a little speechless.
