Funny Friday: August’s Awkward Sports Moments

For this Chicago sports fan, the quickly approaching start of regular season games for hockey, football and basketball means it’s about to get crazy in Chicago. With #TheReturn of the Bull’s Derrick Rose, the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks coming back to the ice and Marc Trestman and his staff working towards making their final cuts to their 53-man roster before the Bears home opener on September 8, there sure is much to look forward to in the world of sports.

Until then, we’re wrapping up August with a few awkwardly funny sports moments that happened over the course of this month for today’s Funny Friday.

Sale Loses His Cooler

Last Friday, Chicago White Sox pitcher, Chris Sale, attacked a Gatorade cooler  in the dugout between innings. Yes, I said attacked a cooler. As awkward as his tirade seemed, his teammates didn’t even notice. Sale gave up eight hits and eight runs over seven innings against the Texas Rangers. Ouch! I guess that fight with the cooler was necessary. Heck, it’s baseball – someone is always shouting at something anyway.

Hugs are for Losers

WNBA star Candace Parker accidentally head-butted her Sparks teammate, Nneka Ogwumike, while celebrating Ogqumike’s lay-up with 44 seconds left in the first overtime. The score gave the Sparks a three-point lead while the head-butt left a gash above Ogumike’s eye. It was quite a bloody sight (pun-intended). However, the knock didn’t stop Ogwumike; she went on to score six straight baskets in the second overtime which led her team to a win. As for Parker, she is now forbidden to hug teammates for the remainder of the season. I’m sure we can all learn a lesson from this after watching the footage below, friends please don’t let friends head-butt one another.

Yesterday the Twitter user @steakNstiffarms sent a tweet about a fantasy football fan who took his love for football to a new level. If you think you’re a huge fan of fantasy football, take a look at the photo (linked above). A guy was making his fantasy draft picks in a movie theater with his date at his side. All I’m hoping for is that the movie was bad; the girl who sat by his side deserves an applause.
