Trending News Monday: Bleak Beginning to the Holiday Season
The long holiday weekend had its fill of new stories. This Trending News Monday, we’re breaking down the biggest headlines.
Walker’s Fatal Car Crash
Amid the festival of lights and Thanksgiving and the Christmas holiday preparations, the weekend dimmed the weekend as Tinsel Town lost a beloved star, Paul Walker. Known for his portrayal of Brian O’Conner in The Fast and the Furious series, Walker, 40, was the passenger in a fatal single-car crash, killing himself and the driver, Roger Rodas. Home for the Thanksgiving holiday from the production of the seventh installment of The Fast and the Furious, Walker and Rodas were driving back from Walker’s Reach Out Worldwide charity toy drive in Santa Clarita Valley. Authorities are looking in to the possibility of drag racing or another car passing in front of the car, causing the 2005 Porche Carrera GT to crash. The investigation continues and autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday.
More than an actor, Walker was a father and philanthropist. Family, Friends, Colleagues and Fans mourned Walker on social media.
Record Setting Holiday Weekend
Thanksgiving used to be a day when American retailers kept their doors locked and their employees at home with their families; however, as eager Holiday shoppers set the trend for spending big during the early hours of Black Friday, more and more retailers are opening their doors on the Thanksgiving day. The trend will most likely continue as retailers witnessed a record crowd of 141 million holiday-weekend in-store and online shoppers, reports Yahoo Finance. Despite an additional four million shoppers, overall sales decreased.
Although the season is known for giving and good will towards men, Black Friday has a reputation for causing mayhem in stores. The shopping turned dangerous for some. Shoppers even tracked this year’s Black Friday chaos via social media.
