Amber Alert Anderson Returns Safely

Trending News Monday: Anderson Returns Safely

A tragic story has a silver lining as the FBI tracked down a missing California teen.

Last night, authorities returned abducted San Diego teen, Hannah Anderson, to her home safely. The manhunt for Anderson and her kidnapper, James Lee DiMaggio, ended on Saturday, when authorities found, shot and killed DiMaggio.

On August 4, DiMaggio killed Anderson’s mother, Christina, and eight-year-old brother, Ethan, before abducting Hannah. Firefighters discovered Christina and Ethan’s bodies while responding to a fire DiMaggio set to his home in San Diego County.

Over the course of six days, five states issued an Amber Alert for the missing sixteen-year-old, and after two Idaho couples reported seeing DiMaggio and Anderson in Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness, authorities began focusing their investigation on that area of Idaho. They uncovered DiMaggio’s car, which he heavily camouflaged, Friday and found DiMaggio and Anderson, who had been unharmed, Saturday.

The LA Times reports DiMaggio was the Anderson’s close family friend. Only a few weeks prior to the abduction, Anderson told friends she was uncomfortable around DiMaggio because he revealed he had a crush on her.

The teen was reunited with her father, Brett Anderson, last night. At the time of her rescue, Hannah did not know of her mother or brother’s deaths. Now home safely, Hannah and her family can begin the long recovery process.
