Trending News Monday: Veterans Day
As an American, it can be easy to take inalienable rights for granted. After all, they are inalienable, God-given rights; we’re entitled to them. As many of us learn the Pledge of Allegiance along with the alphabet, we sometimes forget who exactly ensures there will indeed be life, liberty and justice for all. Anyone who has not served or had friends or family serve in the armed forces can also easily overlook the sacrifices our soldiers and their families have made for the country. Today, however, is their day: Veteran’s day.
This Trending News Monday, we salute the veterans who’ve protected our country and our liberties and will give a brief history of the holiday.
In the wake of World War I, President Woodrow Wilson named November 11, 1919 Armistice day as a way to honor the heroes who laid down their lives for their country during the first World War. Since then, congress has changed the name to Veterans Day, and it’s become a day to celebrate all veterans, not just WWI vets.
Remember to thank our Veterans, especially today.
